Enemy was very active tonight. Met first 110 over zone 5 when Allen spotted him. He must have been a novice pilot as he missed us on two passes and Anderson damaged him as he began his third. We were caught by surprise over zone 6, but only sustained some superficial damage. Over zone 7, we were surprised again with some wing and tail damage occurring. Hit again over target with more wing and tail damage. Anderson was not fazed and dropped the bombs right on target with 50% damage being observed.
We had to descend to 10,000 ft as Allen's oxygen supply had been shot out. As a result, we were hit several times by flak on the return trip. More wing and tail damage occurred. Over zone 4 we spotted another 110 who hit us several times but no major damage was sustained.
Landing was uneventful.
