The crew of the Thunderbird 2 is back in action after some technical problems kept us grounded for the last mission. The flight was quiet until we were over Germany. A 110 tried to sneak up behind us. Sgt Humphrey spotted him and shot the German out of the sky before he could get close enough to shot at us.
Over the target zone a spotlight locked onto us. We avoided the extra flak rounds. A 109 made a pass by us, but missed. For the first time, P/O Stallings was unable to find the target correctly and our bombs missed.
Our trip home was again quiet until we were crossing into Dutch airspace. Sgt Humphrey failed to spot the 110 and the waist O2 system was hit. The 110 circled around and hit our starboard wing. On his third pass he hit the port wing before. P/O Stallings managed to do some damage in return.
We ended our flight with a safe landing back at base.
