Morning Chaps, nearly had the rest of the war off after Gerry raked my kite with cannon fire and gave me a nasty scratch on the head. Claret everywhere!!! The lovely cook Rose said that if I was a Yank pilot they would have given me a medal, instead she gave me another slice of bacon, Wizzard!
Mad Dog was up to his old tricks again getting a toe shot off!!! I think he's more annoyed about having to buy one shoe smaller than the other foot! He did kill a 110 for revenge later on and damaged another.
We were hit by fighters most of the way to and from the Target. They knocked out Antons O2 supply in the tail early on & then damaged the bomb doors in the target area. Just as well there was no flak as we had to wait while Royster manually lowered the doors. Their lights did catch us but this gave Pete his first kill when he blasted a wild boar to bits!! Mad Dog did a fantastic job getting the bombs on target with 40% even though he was wounded. The fun didn't stop there as more fighters jumped us and knocked out the tail guns, rafts, port flap & auto pilot and generally putting as many holes into my kite as they could — 147 points. Another safe landing but the ground crew have their work cut out fixing J Joanna.
