Knotty Nottingham Mission 43 AAR : Leipzig

Mission Description:
Leipzig, Germany - Aircraft
17th/18th February 1944

Mission 42;

At the halfway point a lone Me110 surprised us and razed havoc on our ship. In just two passes the Jerry damaged two engines and killed our tail gunner, Airman Addle. Engine two was leaking oil slightly and engine no. 4 belched smoke and sputtered to a stop. We luckily feathered the engine just prior to it seizing up. Thank God Airman McTee got a bead on the Kraut and he exploded in a beautiful ball of orange flame.

With one engine out and a second questionable I decided to turn around and come home. We landed without further episodes and the ground crew will have "Knotty Nottingham" back in the air for our next mission.
