At approximately 0900 hrs, UTC, 18 Feb. 1944, GCM recorded the following news report from German National Radio:
Last night over Leipzig, a British Lancaster Bomber was shot down by defending Luftwaffe Nightfighters, crashing into a residential neighborhood and killing a number of innocent German civilians. The members of the crew parachuted from their burning aerocraft and were quickly apprended by local security forces.
