Hello Chaps!!
It all seemed to go so well untill we were over Holland, where we picked up some Gremlins. No.3 engine was playing up but then returned to full power just before we were hit by a 110. My Mid Upper Pete was hit in the stomache and we made the hard decision to crack on rather than turn back and get him to a hospital.
The Night Fighters were relentless all the way up to the Target area, turning my kite into Swiss Cheese! Mad Dog was dead eye on his guns killing one on the way to the Tgt. and one on the way back as well as hitting 40% of the Tgt.
The Top turret had complete power failure just before the bomb run. We were hit again by a 110 and he took great pleasure in raking old Joanna causing an oil fire on No.2 engine. luckily it was put out and feathered, but this made it a very slow trip back home. Other major damage occured to the brakes, rudders, flaps and Tail guns ammo tracks.
Oh well the ground crew were glad to see us back even if they are going to be kept busy. Pete is being sent home when he recovers i'm told.
With respects.
Flight Officer Glory Goodfellow.
