Weather at take-off: Clear
Weather over target: Poor (intermittent cloud 7/10 visibility)
Opposition.
Outbound: Moderate: Near Bremen: Me-110 starboard tail plane root hit, inboard port fuel tank hit (self sealed), several other non-effective hits. Near Hamburg: our new tail gunner, Sgt. Brian Mills, spotted a two-engine night fighter approaching and sent it down in flames before it could get off a shot (his first kill). Shortly after another night fighter attacked (this one unseen) and on his first pass hit nothing and on its second pass was blown up by Sgt. Rich Dayton (mid-upper gunner).
Over target: No night fighters, no flak and we weren’t caught by the searchlights: no other hits.
Bombing run: ON TARGET - 30%
Return: Between Brandenburg and Bremen we were attacked by a two-engine night fighter but Sgt. Mills seriously damaged it to the point where it missed on the first pass and apparently could not return for a second. Remainder of return flight uneventful.
