Much better than two nights ago. Of course, it was shorter, so it was better before we even took off.
A Me-110 surprised us over the Netherlands, but I managed to get us away. The next one was also a surprise, over Germany, and we got away from that one, too. Hennington finally spotted one, on the approach to Ludwigshaven. MacNair and Jemison both claimed hits on it, but it didn't seem to do any good.
The run over Ludwigshaven was nothing like the stories told by the old-timers. No flak, no fighters, just a clear view of the TI's in the middle of of the blaze. Jemison put in a good effort for his first trip.
Hennington caught another Me-110 trying to sneak up on us just after we'd turned for home. He blew it out of the sky!
That was our last Me-110. We got home and landed safely. A shell hole was found in the bomb bay. When did that get there, and how close a call did we have?
