Aircraft SY-1454 lost altitude crossing over Dutch coast. Dogged by Flak and fighter all the way to target. Over the target the aircraft took a number of hits from a night fighter and the inboard starboard wing fuel cell ignited. Flight Engineer Mario Lanza, seriously injured, was pushed out of the bomber as the crew bailed, he did not survive. All other crew were captured.
