Reports from the Red Cross are one of our bombers was shot down over the target area. Six of the seven crew were taken prisoner. The seventh crew member was killed and his body was found in the wreckage of the aircraft. Reports indicate the pilot was killed by an attack before the target zone was reached. The flight engineer took over the controls and was flying the aircraft when it was hit by flak over the target. Several fires broke out and the crew bailed out.
