Mission Description:
Berlin, Germany — Industry
19th/20th March 1944
Mission Narrative;
A rough start to this mission required us to abort as a Me110 severally holed our outboard fuel cell in the starboard wing. Fearing we would not make the target and back I ordered the bombs jettisoned and we made for home. Two more Me110s ravaged the old girl and knocked out many flight surfaces and weakened our starboard wing root substantially. With in sight of the English coast we were finally rid of the blasted Krauts and were better able to nurse our plane home. But, this was to no avail as we ran out of petrol on our final approach and made a mess of the landing. This caused the starboard wing to fold as we tried our best to slow the plane to a stop. As luck would have it she slid on her belly the full length of the runway and buried her nose in the grass at the end. God was on our side as no one was terribly hurt in this ordeal. We are all keen to avenge the loss of our old friend "Knotty Nottingham".
