Banchee II Mission 52 AAR : Frankfurt

Radio Berlin broadcast of 22 Mar 1944, 0800 GMT, reports Luftwaffe Experten Nachtjaegarmann Lt. Jurgen Kritchinsky, in defending the Reich against enemy bombers, shot down a British Lancaster over Frankfurt on the night of 21 March. The enemy bomber exploded and security personal reported that one RAF crewman has been captured. This enemy airman is believed to be from the Lancaster bomber shot down by Lt. Kritchinsky.

Communication dated 12 June 1944, International Red Cross, Bern, Switzerland, reports Sgt. Nelson Birch, RAF, has been reported to the IRC to be a prisoner of war and is being held at an unspecified Luftwaffe-operated internment camp. Sgt. Birch told the Red Cross representative that he believed all his "mates were killed." He was not allowed to provide any further information.
