Pretty quiet until we crossed the German Border. I didnt see Jerry coming in and he caused damage to the SW aileron and S/F damage to the Bomb bay and Tail. The Port Rudder also took a hit and he started a fire in me turret! Scrambling like mad to get the fire out and I did after 2 tries. Meanwhile Jerry was making his second pass but Flt Officer Pittman wasnt going to let him get away and promptly shot the bugger down from his nose turret! "Skipper the fire is out, but I lost my Oxygen supply." "Alright then, everyone keep your eyes open, here we go!" Skipper called out as he lowered the ship's nose to bring us lower. Over the target another ME-110 snuck in on me, Damn these guys are good I thought as I watched him fly past my turret guns blazing … Causing S/F damage to the Tail and PW. Despite all that noise Brian managed to get 30% on target …! Skipper put us in a hard turn to port and as we were leaving the target area another ME-110 came in, both shooting at the same time, I missed but he didn't and hammered the PW pretty good. Flt Sgt Lawrence watched as #1 engine took a lot of damage, pieces falling off the cowling and then the prop started to runaway! Skipper and Chris couldn't stop it. The engine was shaking like mad and the skipper was afraid he would lose control … "BAIL OUT!" he yelled out over the intercom and hit the bail out bell … Hearing that I didnt hesistate and rolled my turret to one side and out the doors I went. Looking up I saw the other chaps leaving the ship and watched as the old girl went nose down and crashed in a field a couple of miles from us. We were quickly surrounded by german troops and soon on our way to the local Luft Stalag.
