Blue Dragon Mission 55 AAR : Leipzig

Our first mission proved to be a memoriable experience; we encountered several enemy night fighters and they did some damage to us; our crew chief counted about 14 holes in BLUE DRAGON, plus we suffered damages to our No.2 engine, portwing flaps and aileron, control cables, oxygen supply and neither the top turret or tail guns were operable. Tail Gunner Sgt. Edward Fossgate will be in hospital for awhile; the surgeon said he had a fractured pelvis and lower intestional bruising from a chunk of 20mm cannon shell.

Over our designated target, we were "off target". I am sure we hit the target city, but not the designated target zone. We encountered no enemy aerocraft over the target city, were not hit by searchlight or flak … we just "missed." Hopefully we shall do better next time.

Respectfully Submitted,
Peter DeBeverly, Lt., RAF Bomber Command
Pilot - BLUE DRAGON
