ZURICH — 21 April 1944
The International Red Cross sends this message to inform you of the Prisoner of War status of one RAF aircrewman, late of the RAF Lancaster Bomber Blue Dragon. This airmen are currently interned as enemy combantants. The name of this RAF airman was not released by Luftwaffe personal, but they did say that he was injured and was receiving medical assistance as per the Geneva Convention requirements. We assume the remaining six RAF airmen were KIA.
Radio Berlin broadcast intercept, 31 March '44: On a recent night while on routine patrol to intercept enemy aerocraft, Luftwaffe nightfigher pilot-Officer Karl von Ringen encountered an enemy Lancaster bomber over Holland. P-O von Ringen attacked the enemy bomber and reported that his cannon and machine gun fire caused the bomber to explode. The people of the Third Reich are proud that such warriors as P-O von Ringin are using his skills to defend the innocent civilians of our Reich from British and American aero terrorist attacks. [ RAF Command believes the bomber referenced in this news report to be RAF Lancaster BLUE DRAGON, which failed to return from mission the night of 30 March '44.]
