Re: "No Mice!"
Sgt. Bruce Willinger of "Daddy's Spot" reports what he believes was "No Mice" going down just before reaching the target area. He says the Lanc was off their starboard wing and a little aft when a JU-88 attacked from the 6 o'clock level position. The 88 stayed there for a long time and poured fire into the tail section and then port wing. The wing caught fire and the crew bailed out. He reported six chutes opening (he thinks the other was probably the rear gunner as the tail section appeared to take a lot of punishment).
[That this was in fact a JU 88 cannot be confirmed because Sgt. Willinger was the only one to report having seen one. However that the initial attack was from 6 o'clock level may be significant. - A.G.B.]
