Surprised by a Me-110 out over the North Sea. Wounded Ben Justice, blew Knudsen's instruments to bits, and set the starboard wing on fire before we got away. The fire soon burned itself out, and Kroll calculated we had just enough petrol left to get home. I jettisoned our bombs and headed back. Navigating by eye, though, Knudsen took us the long way
, and we had to ditch just off the coast. Air-Sea Rescue picked us up shortly. I hope the next 29 go better than this!
