B-Beer Mission 59 AAR : Berlin

Extract from P.O.W Repatriation Report

What seemed like an endless prcession of nightfighters attacked us all the way from the Danish coast right to the target, doing a steady stream of damage. During these attacks, the flight engineer was wounded and the electrics to the rear turret were shot away. More worryingly the port inner engine was shot up, although we did manage to feather the propellor.

Being near the target we decided to press on, and just as we were preparing for the run in, another fighter attacked and knocked out the starboard inner engine. This time we were unable to feather the propellor and it threatened to run away — the whole aircraft was shaking and the starboard wing looked like it was about to come off so I gave the order to bail out. Happily the whole crew was able to get out safely.
