THUNDER BAY II
Mission 62 — 25/26 April, 1944
Brunswick — Industry
Outbound. As we approached the Dutch coast we were met by a Me-110 which was unfortunate for him because he missed on his first pass and on the second Sgt Chas. Darling blew him away (Me-110 Destroyed — Sgt. Charles Darling).
Bomb run. The only opposition was a bit of FLAK which hit us but caused no damage. Still, with all the bloody cloud the bomb run was off and we hit nothing; 0% hits.
Return. Within sight of Ol’ Blighty a Ju-88 got in unseen and put some rounds into the bomb bay doors. On his third pass Charlie nailed him but he was still able to put a round into our port wing root. (Ju-88 FBOA — Sgt. Charles Darling). We saw no other Krauts.
Landing. Landed at base without any problems.
