All quiet 'til we got to bombing altitude and started gettig lined up. Clarke in the tail spotted a nightfighter doing some lining up himself and after the first exchange of pleasantries he beetled off looking like he was leaking coolant.
Flak over the target was moderate but jolly accurate. Four big pieces of shrapnel hit the nose, fuselage and Number1 engine which I had to feather. The nose hit must have missed Prior by inches though he claims he only noticed the draft after we left the target area and Bishop our mid-upper is proudly showing off the ruins of his flying jacket, one of the midships hits was that close. (He's not showing anyone his long johns though).
On the way out another nightfighter had a go at us. Fancy flying kept us out of his sights for the most part and though we took a few more hits nothing fatal got in the way.
The landing was a bit ropey - but we didn't break anything else and we'll be on the line tomorrow afternoon at the latest Sir.
