Groggy Lass flew to target without encountering any enemy opposition. Even with the bad weather, we came in on target and Sgt. Ivey hit with about 20% of our gift. No flak came at us.
We turned for home and as we were over the Channel, Sgt. Duncan hollered "Jerry at Six!" His tail guns fired and he was heard to utter a few curse words. Groggy Lass was hit, but no serious damage was done. However, Jerry made another pass at us from 12 high and hit us with his cannon fire. There was a sharp scream, followed by a sighing sound and we found W.O Sgt. Galliger was killed; a shell splattered his guts all over the Wireless compartment. The F.S. said he probably died quickly.
Jerry made another pass, again from 12 high, but evasive manouevering helped him miss us this time.
Groggy Lass landed without problem and should be ready for her next mission. We'll miss Sgt. Galliger; he seemed to be a nice lad.
