Three separate attacks by enemy fighters resulted in two crew members wounded and two crew members killed. The first attack resulted in no damage as the enemy AC made a pass and disappeared into the darkness. Approaching the target a second attack knocked out the bomb release controls, the port wing flap and holed the #1 engine oil tank. Pilot Byers suffered a light wound when hit by shrapnel as was TG McDowell. The bomb load was salvoed manually over the target missing the TIs. The attack on the way out of the target area hit the rear of the flight deck and waist of the AC killing Wireless Op Wilkinson and MUG McJarvie. Tail gunner McDowell extracted some revenge by shooting down the ME110.
