Ain't No Lady Mission 69 AAR : Brest

Ain't No Lady
Mission 69 — 22 / 23 May, 1944
Brest Airfield

Outbound: The first attack came over the Channel: Even though the tail gunner reported hitting him he knocked out the No. 1 engine. I feathered it but the tail gunner said that his turret wouldn't respond. He also hit the port wing but did no damage. He missed on his subsequent attacks. As we were nearing the target a Me-110 attacked. On his second pass Sgt. Creswell winged him enough that he missed and left for home. (FBOA — Sgt. Tom Creswell, bomb aimer).

Bomb run: Even with the distraction of the attack Tom got us on target and estimates 30% scored.

Return: We were attacked once more over the Channel and our new tail gunner, blew the Kraut out of the sky before he was able to attack. (Me-110 Destroyed — Sgt. Archie Bellows, tail gunner).

Landing: No problems.
