Mission Report:
Tough mission as three enemy fighters ravaged our Lancaster. Prier to the target zone we were surprised by a tame boar. This attack killed Robinson and wounded Bolsworth. With the loss of Robinson we had no protection in the rear. And this fighter must have radioed this to his mates. Cause the rest of the resulting attacks came from the tail end.
Over the target the Luftwaffe hit again. This time killing O'Leary as well as knocking out our number one engine. To our surprise we didn't receive any flak damage. Though there was a fair amount popping around the ship. Webb was spot on even in the less than perfect weather. He was able to put 97% of our bombs on the target zone.
Coming off the target we were once again surprised by the last Me110 to attack us. This one did minimum damage to the plane. Back at the base as we touched down we realized that one of the Karuts had destroyed our brakes, but we were able to arrest our speed and stop before the end of the runway.
It is always hard to lose crewmen but these two boys were great worriers and friends they will be dearly missed.
Respectfully,
Flight Officer D.Borelli
