Both the outbound and return legs of this trip were interrupted by German night fighters. An Me110 surprised us over Belgium and knocked out the starboard aileron. He also put a round through my hand before disappearing into the night.
Homebound the culprit appeared to be a Ju88, and he again hit the starboard wing before being driven off by the bomb aimer.
The target itself was very quiet with no defences in evidence at all. Sgt Webster released bang on the markers and the rear gunner reported multiple secondary explosions as we turned for home.
