Crew of the Jasmine reporting. The flight was peaceful over England. The first of Jerry we spotted was over the Channel. It was an ME-110, but Pickard [tail gunner] couldn't get a bead on him. We began evasive, but he got a few rounds into us, and hit our port wing. We eventually lost him in the clouds, and continued on to our target.
Another 110 was waiting for us, but we had luck on our side, for he missed us. Pickard made 'im pay for his error, and sent him to hell.
The weather over the target was clear, and the spotlights easily found us. Fortunately, Ack-ack was light and Jerry's aim was off. A Wild Boar came in from 12 o'clock high, but Hooke [mid-upper turret gunner] shot him down.
Our bomb run was decent, and Longfellow [bomb aimer] is confident that at least 40 percent of our bombs hit on target.
We headed for home. We prepared for another run-in with Jerry, but it never came. Our return flight was uneventful, and the landing was successful, although that hit in our port wing had knocked out the brake.
Crew moral is quite high, and we're all pleased with our performance his mission.
