Right after crossing the coast I spotted a ME-110 coming up from behind, I missed him with a quick burst as he flew past and came back around our Mid-Upper had a go and knocked a few pieces off of him, causing Jerry to break off his attack. It was quiet for abit when a ME-110 snuck in close and managed S/F damage to the Bomb bay, Tail and both wings.
Nothing more til we got to the target, weather was terrible which kept the fighters and the searchlights away from us. But somehow our Bomb Aimer had the luck that night and put 50% on target. The skipper broke to port and got us and the old girl outta there pretty quick.
Thought we were going to make it as we crossed the coast when a ME-110 came in guns blazing, we heard our Mid-Upper cry out as his turret was knocked out, he quickly dropped into the main compartment and stayed by the radio op. The second pass Jerry got several hits into the PW and knocked out our #2 engine. Then he was gone, as the Flt and the skipper nursed the rest of the engines to get us back home. We all piled out and looked over the old girl, the holes in the ship didnt look too bad, but it looks like were going to need another engine. We piled into the lorry, glad to have done our job but more important glad to get back in one piece.
