Beatrix II Mission 80 AAR : Dijon

Back in action after out little adventure in mainland Europe, we were ready to head back across France to Dijon. It was a quiet flight, a welcome respite I might add, until we reached Zone Seven. Our tail gunner was on the ball and nicked what looked like an Me110. Still managed to damage the wing and tail a little I believe, felt some shaking at least. Another 110 appeared in Zone Eight, and once again the tail gunner took a crack at him. He reported that he hit it, but the Jerry continued on. Hit the starboard rudder, bomb bay, and badly wounded the tail gunner. Neither 110 managed to land any shots on its successive attacks.

As we arrived over Dijon, another Tame Boar bounced us. LAC Douglas had drug the tail gunner out of his position to keep an eye out for just such an occasion but the old boy couldn't help it with all the searchlights flashing about. He didn't see the bastard, yet again a 110. The pilot damaged the nose and tail slightly before causing a leak in the port inboard fuel tank. No flak hit us, but a Wild Boar sprung on us from around 3 o'clock. The mid-upper gunner took a shot and winged him but was wounded and his guns knocked out for his trouble. Nevertheless, Jim put the bombs right on target near as I can tell.

Quiet trip back, not even a whiff of a Luftwaffe fighter. The leak in the inboard fuel tank caused us to run out of fuel as we crossed the coast and forced an emergency landing at one of the coastal fields. Plane's alright to fly again though, small favors eh.

Respectfully,
