Mission 84: Vaires (Rail line)
5 July, 1944
To Target: Nearing the target area we met a 110 that put a lot of holes into us but no significant damage, but nicked the w/o operator.
Target: No opposition of any kind except for heavy cloud. Bombing 20% on.
Return: Leaving the target another Me-110 knocked out the oxygen and slightly wounded bomb aimer Sgt. Cyril Barrette. On his second pass Mid-upper blew him from the sky. (I was forced to drop down to 10,000 for the return trip; encountered no light flak)
Landing: Okay
Victories: Destroyed: 1- Me-110 — Mid-upper gunner Sgt. Brian Delaney
Minor wounds: (2) W/O operator Sgt. Thomas Herald, and Bomb aimer Sgt. Cyril Barrette
