It was fortunate for us that we had good fighter cover. They certainly earned their pay. In zone 4 they took care of three enemy fighters that were attacking us.
We weren't attacked again until we reached the target area. Coleman in the tail flamed one 109 and Randal took care of another. The blasted flak peppered us but didn't seem to do anything but superficial damage and despite being hit by flak and lousy weather we still managed an on target run.
As we proceeded home we were approached by three more fighters but friendly fighters took care of all three. We managed to land safe back at home.
