Victorious Mission 87 AAR : Châtellerault

19 July, 1944

Lieutenant Thomas and the crew of Victorious reporting.

This was a fairly uneventful flight. We encountered no Germans until over the target area. The spotlights picked us up, but flack was light and hit nowhere near us.

An ME-109 came at us, but Davies [bomb aimer] at the nose guns drove him off. We didn't confirm a kill, but Potter says he hit 'em good. Weather over the target was poor, and Davies [bomb aimer] believes we were able to put 10% of our bombs near the target.

On the return journey we ran into two other Jerry ME-110's. The second we destroyed by Smith [tail gunner] before Jerry had time to fire on us.

Weather back home was poor, but we landed alright. We checked out the Victorious. Not a bullet came near her. If only all our sorties were like this.
