The outbound trip was a running battle with three different Me110s, all of whom had approached us unseen. Over the target we were also hit by flak that just added to the chaos.
We sustained damaged throughout the aircraft with the port wing flap, port aileron, starboard brake and tail wheel all rendered useless.
Never the less, Sgt Albert Boatman our bomb aimer and most experienced crew member stayed calm and dropped the whole load right on the markers.
Luckily the trip home was uneventful.
