Opposition outbound: We met no opposition until approaching the target when a Ju-88 attacked. He knocked out the No. 1 engine (feathered);. On the 88's second pass he destroyed the starboard aileron and then our tail gunner winged him enough that he made no further attacks (FBOA Tail gunner Sgt. Thomas Boland).
