A gentle introduction to operations. No E/A encountered until the approach. A Me-110 surprised us, and managed to hit Frenesi after I commenced evasive action, but no serious damage was taken. Searchlights caught us over the city, and flak burst all around us. Amazingly, our only damage was to Platt's oxygen in the tail turret, but that was minor. A Me-109 made a head-on pass after Salzmann had left his nose turret for the bomb sight, but Taft managed to drive it off. The combination of the searchlights, the flak, and Me-109, though, put our bomb run hopelessly off. No E/A encountered on the way home.
