We were actually over Calais when the first Germans showed up. A couple of FW190s took an interest but one was despatched by the fighter cover and Sgt Litchfield accounted for the other from the mid upper position.
The bomb run looked pretty good but in the poor visibility it was hard to tell.
On the way back a Me110 got through the defensive screen and made a total of three passes at us. The worst damage was to the radio and our tail gunner who was hit in the hand.
All was well and we arrived home after a safe landing.
