Off on a long trip into Germany! We are excited about this trip. We are attacked as soon as we cross into the Fatherland! A ME-110 hits us fast. we take a couple of hits & manage to get a lucky shot to drive him off, trailing smoke! We approach the target & are hit again! A 110 blasts us from behind! The #2 engine is smoking! We finally get free & a 109 hits us straight on, the Bomb Aimer is killed by the volley of bullets! We take a hammering over the target & the bomb drop is noshere bear as close!! Evasive maneuvers to get out of here! another 110 latches on and we manage to get him for the kill by the tail gunner! We fly off into the darkness … Full of holes & one engine short, luckily no other Night fighters find us. We limp home startled to say the least.
