Target: Karlsruhe (Industry)
Date: Sept. 12,13, 1944
To Target: No encounters. But several flak hits, raft destroyed and port rudder.
Target: Bomb run on target; 30%
Return: Leaving the target a Me-110 attacked: he missed us entirely on his first pass and on his second mid-upper shot him up enough that he left us without doing any damage. (FBOA: mid-upper gunner: Sgt. Paul Monksford)
Over the Channel another Me-110 attacked without our seeing him initially; knocked out #2 engine (feathered) and put rounds into the wing (root); other hits but with no significant effect. On his third pass Sgt. Monksfield (mid-upper) hit him, or at least, put rounds close enough that he veered away.
