Opposition outbound: Shortly after take-off a two-engine fighter approached unseen. He put rounds in the port wing and near the pilot's windscreen but they availed him nothing. His second pass he was shot down by the Sgt. Whitbread, our nose gunner/bomb aimer.
Over the target: We saw no flak and no night fighters attacked
