We had an easy run to the target at which point things really warmed up. Sgt Harp spotted a Me110 sliding in underneath us and we started evasive action. Hits ripped into the port aileron and control cables but then Sgt Aldrich in the nose hit the enemy with a long burst that blew his port wing clean off.
Searchlights over the target guided in a FW190 wild boar but his approach was too fast and he disappeared without hitting us.
No sooner had Sgt Aldrich released the payload over the markers than another 110 attacked us. Some hits were scored but Aldrich damaged this one as well before he left us alone.
We spotted one final 110 shortly after leaving the Dutch coast but, neither he nor our combined gunners managed to find the mark.
