Worley gave him more than we got. Still, I told the new boy to get on his toes, as our luck would not always be so good. So it proved. As we neared Braunschweig, we were surprised by another Tame Boar, and this time we got a kicking: The mid-upper turret was destroyed by a cannon shell, with gunner F. Valois losing an arm. The autopilot was also knocked out. It only got worse: We were immediately lit up by searchlights, two flak hits knocking out the #4 engine, which flight engineer D. Pelton was unable to feather. We managed to avoid a Wild Boar, but the plane was so severely damaged, we were unable to place a single bomb on target. Exitting the target zone, we were surprised by yet another Tame Boar. Worley shot it down, but not before Valois was hit again, fatally. No further incidents to report. 1 Me-110 shot down, 1 Me-110 damaged.
