We were forced to turn back by damage to the port fuel tank caused by a surprise attack soon after we crossed into Germany. We got shot up pretty bad and after the hun had worked us over pretty thoroughly we had no option but to turn round, ditch the bombs over the sea and limp home hoping not to catch fire.
A rough landing due to damage to the landing gear and brakes but no casualties beyond a banged head and a finger caught in a throttle. — The chief says she'll fly again but it might take a while. Next time out we may have to pinch the reserve kite.
