A rough introduction to operations. Quinn spotted a Me-110 behind us while we were still over the Netherlands. He got a piece of it, but the Me-110 got us, too, killing Vail and destroying his turret.
Later, another Me-110 fired on us from just beneath a wing, but somehow managed to miss. I took evasive action, and the Me-110 continued its attack from our unprotected upper side, but never did get a hit.
Searchlights coned us over the target, attracting a lot of flak, none of which did any serious damage. A Me-109 attacked from above, but missed us and disappeared into the darkness. Between the flak and the clouds, Tannenbaum feels lucky to have hit Stuttgart, and has no hope of seeing a TI in the photo.
It was a quiet trip home with Jimmy's body.
