Over Belgium we were attacked by an Me110 in a Vertical Climb which resulted in Mid-Upper Gunner oxygen hit and Bomb release mechanism inoperable. The enemy AC missed on a follow up attacked and disappeared into the dark. Shortly after and ME110 attacked from below rear and resulted in starboard wing flap shot out, superficial damage to the port wing, aileron controls shot out. Rear Gunner TP Bowles was severely wounded and moved to the resat bed midships.
Over the target the bombs were manually released by wireless op WS Hignell on command from bomb aimer DD Richardson. 20% of load was on target.
Return trip was quiet and TP Bowles was treated and released after a short stay in the base infirmary
