An ME 110 had a go at us on the run up to the target and got a number of hits on both wings and the port rudder before rear gunner Wight put a long burst into it had had the satisfaction of watching the port wing catch fire and fall off as the enemy plane crashed. One parachute was seen. Over the target we took three hits of flack which severely wounded bomb aimer Richardson and damaged the bomb bay. The flight engineer managed to manually salvo the load somewhere over the target area and then tended to Richardson.
Over the base at home we landed but the under carriage collapsed on landing which brought us to an abrupt stop. The ground says the ac is repairable. Richardson was taken to the base hospital and then evacuated to another facility. His war is over.
