Saw several enemy fighters on flight to target, but they were delt with by our escort. Escort couldn't keep flak away from us and we took 40% damages to port wing root from flak. With the flak hitting us, it threw off our run and we missed hitting the target.
Sgt. Bridges was not happy about missing a target in broad daylight, and with the sea in sight, an enemy fighter got near us and Bridges hit him hard with the nose turret guns, shredding Jerrys wing and sending that 110 spiriling downward. Two chutes were observed.
Landed safely and necessary repairs should be completed quickly.
