Perdido Mission 104 AAR : Nürnburg

A long night, but at least it was night. A twin-engined fighter found us as we crossed the German border. It did some superficial damage before I got us away. Quinn saw the next one coming in behind us, and sent it tumbling in flames! Then a large twin-engined fighter attacked. It ended up ahead of us as I tried to evade it. Tannenbaum it, and it hit us. It disappeared into the night, but we kept going.

In contrast, it was almost peaceful over the target. Tannenbaum spotted a TI through a gap in the clouds, and the photo shows our load on target.

Another large twin-engined fighter hit our port wing as we left the target area, destroying the aileron. As I tried to dodge its next attack, we were hit again. The #3 engine quit, and Opdenbosch feathered the prop.

We got away, but all of us in the cockpit started feeling the cold. I took Perdido down to 10,000 feet, where we encounted yet another twin-engined fighter. This one hit the starboard wing before I could commence evasive action, and Waddell eventually got a good shot off and sent it spinning out of control.

One more twin-engined fighter found us, as we crossed the Dutch border. I shook it off, but not before port wing took some damage.

We landed safely, where an inspection showed that we'd taken damage to the starboard aileron and port rudder that hadn't put them out of service, and a hole in the #2 engine's oil tank had self-sealed.
