We are off to Nurnburg a long flight. We gayher up & go over the Channel. We are prepared, but as soon as we hit the coast a 110 finds us. We are hit on the fusalage! The bomb aimer is slightly nicked! hope it doesn't affect his aim! We approach the target, obscured weather helps us get in undetected. We drop twenty percent on target! We turn for home avoiding the deadly flak. another 110 hits us hard! the #2 engine is smoking now! We manage to get him with the tail guns. but another deadly barrage rakes us first! The radio operator didn't have a chance! We fly on and are back over the channel a bit shaken to be sure! We limp on home with mixed feelings on this one …
