We encountered three Jerry fighters on route to the target. The first was a Ju88 who sprayed the port wing with fire. The second, also a Ju88 failed to hit us and the bomb aimer clipped him as he departed. The third was a Me110 and the tail gunner who had spotted him during his approach blew him apart.
Over the target another 110 shot out the port aileron before being shot down by our mid upper gunner Sgt Farnsworth. We avoided the flak, searchlights & wild boars and were right over the markers as the bombs were released.
Nothing troubled us on the way home and we were left to celebrate the success of our mission and our two new crew members, Sgt Day in the tail gunners position and Sgt Tyne our bomb aimer.
