All went well until we crossed the German coast at which point the starboard outer engine started to race out of control. We successfully feathered it and survived two more passes from a Me110 who presumably caused the damage in the first place.
Although down to 3 engines we pressed on to the target where the search lights immediately found us; possibly due to our slower speed. Flak was then pretty intense causing hits throughout the aircraft. Most seemed inconsequential other than the wrecking of the starboard elevator.
A single engine fighter flashed passed at one stage but scored no hits on us.
Sadly we were well wide of the mark with our bomb load with Sgt Tyne blaming the shell hits in the nose compartment for the inaccuracy.
Home bound all was quiet.
