PM017 Mission 106 AAR : Duisburg

PM017, pilot officer A. Mankiewicz reporting. All the easy missions we've had lately came back to bite us in the ass. We made it all the way to the Belgian-German border when an Me-110 snuck up on us. He only made one pass, and although both wings took heavy damage we were much more concerned with the oxygen fire which erupted on the flight deck. It took us nearly to Duisburg to put it out. We evaded flak, and an Me-109, but were so rattled we failed to put any bombs on target. On our way back over Belgium, not far from the front — I swear it was the same Me-110 — had another go. Mid-upper gunner F. Willard was grazed, and bomb aimer B. Upton suffered a more substantial knock. Thankfully we also evaded him soon after. Crew Chief Report: Major kit needing replacement are the rudder controls, flight deck oxygen system, tail wheel, bomb bay doors, port wing flap and a starboard wing spar. (23 hits, 241 Peckham Points … 186 of those in the first pass of the first combat!)
